Situated in the basement of historic Harley House on the corner of Collins & Exhibition Streets, entry via Strachan Lane. La Chinesca is a bar, Peruvian eatery and art space.
Descend the stairs into a space reminiscent of a New York style basement, with its exposed brick walls and pillars, light seeping in from the streets above. An ocean-blue tiled bar, the cavernous space is a mix of booth seating, couches with coffee tables, stools and dining tables, evoking an intimate space seductively lit by crystal lamps and candle light. White-tiled alcoves serve as display areas, large portraits fill the walls including some Archibald Prize winning entries by Vincent Fantauzzo, one of the partners involved.
Chef and native of Lima, Daniel Salcedo is putting out food that he knows and loves. A menu designed with sharing and progressively grazing in mind, consists of Rompebocas, which means to break your mouth or bites, Peruchos Criollos, the fusion of the influences from the last 500 years of Spanish, Japanese, African, Italian and Peruvian cuisines from the coast of Peru, and dishes from Los Antichucos or Peruvian charcoal grill. Whether it’s a snack while your having a drink of something more substantial we have you covered.
Our drinks menu consists of cocktails designed by our bartenders to compliment our food and style. An extensive wine list will cater for all needs, adventurous or classic. An eclectic beer list and a great ever growing back bar selection, especially of Whiskey and Tequila.
Check out our ‘events’ tab, as we are always up to something. Have your event or function at La Chinesca, we have a manner of spaces to suit differing needs and a ‘VIP’ room for larger groups and those special occasions. Call or email us for more information.
